The 2010 State of Ontario's Biodiversity Report
Purpose
The purpose of the 2010 State of Ontario's Biodiversity report is to inform the public about biodiversity, its benefits, threats, and current condition. This report is meant to be:
- accessible to the public, with a definition and view of biodiversity to which people can relate
- a science-based assessment that is transparent about gaps in knowledge and identifies risks
- mindful of acknowledging the global context and obligation to steward Ontario's biodiversity
- repeatable, serving as a framework for future reports to assess change over time in a meaningful way
- conservation-oriented: trends and assessment information improve our ability to conserve the biological wealth of Ontario

Two sister documents were also published to supplement the State of Ontario's Biodiversity 2010 report: Ontario's Biodiversity Strategy Progress Report 2005-2010 and the Province of Ontario Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity Analysis.
