2005 Ontario's Biodiversity Strategy

In 2004/2005 the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), the public, and many partners developed a plan to help protect the province's biodiversity. Learn more about Ontario's Biodiversity Strategy and the actions that will ensure that the variety of life will be available for future generations.

Protecting What Sustains Us: Ontario's Biodiversity Strategy, released in 2005, recognizes that all Ontarians have a role in protecting the province's biological diversity. The strategy identifies a number of key actions that will help Ontario to:

 

  • reach its biodiversity conservation goals,

 

  • protect the genetic, species, and ecosystem diversity of Ontario, and

 

  • use and develop the biological assets of Ontario sustainably and capture the benefits from such use for Ontarians
